Meet glass
artist Sue Smith. Sue travels extensively and has lived in the Middle East
and Europe. Originally from Devon and now working from her home studio
there, Sue has been working with glass and various mediums for over 20 years
and has a keen interest in the world about her, in nature and the
environment and has been both influenced and inspired by different cultures
and architecture from around the world...This energy is reflected in her work
where she creates pieces using a combination of colours, materials and
textures to surprise, delight, engage and encapture.
Recently Sue
has been working with recycled glass, designing the "Gaudi" range,
influenced by the work of Antoni Gaudi in Barcelona
and also a new range inspired by famous son of Lanzarote
Caesar Manrique. This provides her with
exciting and endless possibilities to create unique and individual
pieces of work, whilst taking on board the ever so important
issues of recycling and the preservation of the world around us. Thus,
each piece is unique in colour, shape and size and holds its own
individual character and atmosphere.
Sue explores
colour and texture to its full potential so that her work becomes an
expression or reflection of the natural beauty that surrounds us,
unfortunately all too often overlooked. Sue believes that a piece of work
should speak to you, make you feel, make you think, move you, inspire you
or delight you.
There is
always a piece to represent you or to express your personality and
emotions. Sue finds working with glass both challenging and fulfilling.
Her Garden Mosaics have become increasingly popular and are in demand.
